It was founded in 1980. AfWA has over 100 members from 40 countries in Africa. Members include NGOs, research institutions, utilities, academics and the private sector. AfWA recognizes the importance of water and sanitation services to the overall socio-economic development of Africa. It recognizes that both water and sanitation have to the health, education and overall development of the continent.
